Health and Well-being
For most of these elders, life is a daily struggle to access appropriate healthcare and basic support for food, clothing, and decent shelter. Episodes of war, recurrent famines, destructive floods, and drought have left many destitute and poverty-stricken. We mobilize food, clothing, and bedding, and organize health camps where we provide basic screening and referral services.

Ewaju lives alone and has a leaky roof which he repairs when he is able to get outside and cut grass which repairs the roof! he battles severe illnesses, Solita and her volunteers try to see him at least once weekly with food and medications provided through Emerald Foundation, which is funded througoh this foundation.
This beautiful woman lives alone as well and is blind, she receives packages from the volunteers, food and supplies.
Emmanuel, living alone, struggles with multiple health challenges. In his hands are his doctor’s medical records. He is able to see his doctor rarely, and lives in a neighboring town, one which has running water and electricity. He has also received food items today.
These photos are not meant to make us sad, only to show us how some of us live, and are an encouragement for each of us to be aware and to possibly give even small amounts. Food is expensive here as the rains have left many of their small gardens flooded. Therefore Emerald Foundation Uganda needs as much as $40 to feed each person for a month. In the future, depending on giving, the group can build a kitchen, staff it with volunteers and provide meals for less. Thank you for opening this website and reading!!

In September donations made here which amounted to 2,697,616 Ugx (about $700) went to cover food, $250, a blanket and a mattress _this person’s first mattress in her life, $61. The rest was distributed to other people in the village. Little goes to administrative costs, ie. website, wifi, cell phone.
If you REALLY want to give, Solita could use a motorbike to get from the hospital in a neighboring town, to the village where these people live. It is more than an hour walk or a bus ride, when that is available. Such a bike would be $5,000 US dollars, new or $3500 used. Please consider this, email me, gelburd@gmail.com if you have questions!!!
